How we're supporting LGBTQI+ youth & Wear It Purple

This year we're donating 10% of the profits from our Wear It Purple range to Wear It Purple. It's the first time we've done it. Here's how it works and where the money ends up.

What we're donating

10% of the profits from every product in the Wear It Purple collection. Cupcakes, mini cupcakes, donuts, cookies, brownies, the vegan box, and all the personalised versions.

We've said profits because that's the figure the 10% comes out of.

We're registered as a supporter with Wear It Purple. Once the day has passed we'll total up what the range made and pay the donation straight to them. You don't need to opt into anything at checkout.

Where the money goes

Wear It Purple is an Australian not-for-profit. Donations go towards resources and support for schools, universities, Gender and Sexuality Alliances and youth organisations, so they can build environments where LGBTQIA+ young people feel safe.

Their published breakdown covers free resources for schools, keeping merchandise affordable so cost isn't a barrier for students, youth-led programs, official Wear It Purple Day events across capital cities and regional areas, and growing their volunteer network.

They also partner with Rainbow Giving Australia on the Queer Futures Fund, which gives grants to arts and community projects run by and for LGBTQIA+ young people.

Who runs it

Two high school students, Katherine Hudson and Scott Williams, started Wear It Purple in 2010 after several LGBTQIA+ young people took their own lives following bullying and harassment. It's still largely student and volunteer run.

Why we're doing it

Most of what we send out for Wear It Purple Day goes to offices and schools. Usually someone in HR or on a wellbeing committee has been handed the day and a small budget, and they're trying to make it feel like more than an email.

Food helps with that. It gets people to stop and stand around together for ten minutes.

We've also got people on our own team who this day is for, so putting money behind it made sense to us.

Why the day matters

Around 75% of LGBTIQ young people in Australia experience some form of discrimination, according to Wear It Purple's research summary. 61% experience verbal abuse and 19% experience physical bullying. Roughly 24% of lesbian, gay and bisexual people experience depression, and 36% of trans Australians, compared with about 7% of the general population.

A day of purple shirts won't move those numbers. What it does is show a young person that the people around them are on their side.

This year's campaign

Wear It Purple Day 2026 is on Friday 28 August. It falls on the last Friday of August every year.

The campaign is Colours of Courage, about the courage it takes to be yourself and the courage of the people who back you. Our range carries both the Wear It Purple designs and the Colours of Courage artwork.

If you're the one organising something, we've written a guide to the day covering what to run, how much to order, and when to have it booked by.

Colours of Courage cupcakes with a personalised company logo for Wear It Purple Day 2026

What's in the range

Wear It Purple Cupcakes are what most offices order, in packs that run from a team of ten upwards. Mini Wear It Purple Cupcakes stretch further if you've got a big floor to cover, and Wear It Purple Donuts get spotted from across the room. Both are Melbourne delivery only.

Wear It Purple Cookies keep for weeks, so they suit a date that might move. There's a loaded brownie for a single person, and Vegan Wear It Purple Cupcakes so nobody sits it out.

Want your branding on them? Personalised Wear It Purple Cupcakes and Personalised Colours of Courage Cupcakes take up to three logos, images or messages on edible icing.

Running something at your workplace

Wear It Purple have free posters, activity ideas, workplace toolkits and social graphics on their site, and you can register your event with them. Start there if you're organising something.

For the food, have a look through the Wear It Purple collection. Everything is baked in our Melbourne bakery, in bulk packs that suit anything from a small team to a few hundred people. Same-day delivery across Melbourne if you order by 1PM, next-day to Sydney and the rest of Australia.

August fills up, so get in earlier than you think you need to. And wear something purple on the 28th.
