Educators' Day Gift Ideas: What to Give Your Child's Educator

by Phillip Kuoch on August 10, 2026

Early Childhood Educators' Day 2026 is on Wednesday 2 September, and if you're reading this you've probably realised you have no idea what to get. Here's what educators actually want, what to spend, and how to handle a room with four staff in it.

Should you give a gift at all?

You don't have to. Plenty of families write a card and nothing else, and educators consistently say the handwritten ones are what they keep.

If you do want to give something, keep it small. Most services have policies capping what staff can accept, usually somewhere around $20 to $50. Your centre director will tell you if you ask, and asking is easier than getting it wrong.

The room problem

This is the bit most parents get stuck on. Your child probably has three or four educators across their room, plus a director, plus whoever covers on Fridays. Buying for one and not the others puts that educator in an awkward spot.

Two ways around it.

Buy something shareable. A box of cupcakes or cookies goes to the room rather than a person, and everyone gets one. This is what most families end up doing.

Go in with other parents. If your centre has a parent group chat, someone has usually already suggested it. A group order covers more people and costs each family less.

What educators actually want

Ask around and the same things come up.

Something specific in writing. Not "thanks for everything" but the actual thing. How they settled your child in the mornings when drop-off was hard. That they noticed something about your kid that you hadn't. Educators keep these.

Food they can eat on a break. Their days run without much of a gap. Something they can grab in ten minutes gets used.

Something for the room, not just one person. Educators work as a team and most would rather the team got something.

What comes up less often: candles, mugs, and anything with "world's best teacher" on it. They have several.

Gift ideas that work

Early Childhood Educators' Day Cupcakes
A box for the whole room, topped with Educators' Day edible toppers. The easiest way to cover everyone without picking favourites.

Early Childhood Educators' Day Brownie
One large loaded brownie glazed in ganache. Suits a single educator, or slices up if the room wants to share.

Early Childhood Educators' Day Cookies
Iced sugar cookies that keep for three weeks, so you can order these now and stop thinking about it.

Early Childhood Educators' Day Donuts
Iced and sprinkled with Educators' Day toppers through the box. These get noticed the moment the lid comes off.

Want your child's face on it? Our Personalised Cookies and Personalised Cupcakes let you upload a photo and we print it onto edible toppers. Upload up to three images for cupcakes and one for the larger items. We recommend checking your uploaded file as we don't make changes to the files uploaded.

There's more in the full Educators' Day collection, including bulk packs if you're going in with other families.

Getting your child involved

If your kid is old enough to hold a crayon, let them make the card. It's the part educators actually keep, and it costs nothing.

Ask them what they like about their educator and write down what they say word for word. Four-year-olds produce better material than adults do.

When to give it

The day itself is Wednesday 2 September, but you don't have to hand it over then. Plenty of centres run their morning tea earlier in the week depending on rosters, and giving it at drop-off the day before works just as well.

If your child's educator works part-time, check which days they're on. Handing a gift to someone who isn't there until Thursday is a common miss.

Ordering and delivery

Same-day delivery across Melbourne if you order by 1PM. Next-day to Sydney and other metro areas, and 1 to 3 business days regional.

You can have it delivered straight to the centre, or send it to your place first if you'd rather hand it over yourself. Priority delivery is available for selected Melbourne metro suburbs, which suits a drop-off before the centre opens.

We recommend ordering and booking in your delivery as soon as possible. There are several occasions happening in September and we will most likely sell out.

Have a look through the Educators' Day collection when you're ready to order. If you're after the date and this year's theme, read when is Early Childhood Educators' Day.
