How we're supporting mental health awareness & R U OK? Day

This year we're donating 10% of the profits from our R U OK? Day range to R U OK?. It's the first time we've done it. Here's how it works and where the money ends up.

What we're donating

10% of the profits from every product in the R U OK? Day collection. Cupcakes, mini cupcakes, donuts, cookies, brownies, the vegan box, and all the personalised versions.

We're registered as a supporter with R U OK?. Once the day has passed we'll total up what the range made and pay the donation straight to them. You don't need to opt into anything at checkout.

Where the money goes

R U OK? is an Australian suicide prevention charity and a registered public health promotion charity. Their work is aimed at the person doing the asking, building the confidence and skills to have a conversation with someone who's struggling.

Their published breakdown covers:

  • Free resources for workplaces, schools and communities, so anyone running something doesn't have to build it or pay for it
  • Reaching remote and at-risk communities
  • National campaigns beyond R U OK? Day itself, including ones for emergency service workers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, sporting groups and schools
  • Research and evaluation to work out what's actually landing

Worth knowing: R U OK? doesn't provide counselling or crisis support. They point people to the services that do.

Who runs it

R U OK? was founded in 2009 by Gavin Larkin, an advertiser who wanted a campaign built around one question. It's now a national charity on the Register of Harm Prevention Charities, working alongside suicide prevention researchers, government departments, schools and workplaces.

Why we're doing it

Most of what we send out for R U OK? Day goes to offices. Usually someone in HR or on a wellbeing committee has been handed the day and a small budget, and they're trying to make it feel like more than an email.

Food helps with that. It gets people to stop and stand around together for ten minutes, which is where the conversations actually happen.

Why the day matters

Around 65,000 Australians attempt suicide in a 12-month period. The point of R U OK? Day isn't to turn anyone into a counsellor. It's to make asking the question feel normal enough that people do it on the other 364 days too, which is exactly what this year's campaign is about.

This year's campaign

R U OK? Day 2026 is on Thursday 10 September. It falls on the second Thursday of September every year.

The campaign is Ask R U OK? Any Day, a reminder that the conversation matters more than the date. Plenty of workplaces run their event earlier or later in the week depending on who's in the office.

If you're the one organising something, we've written a guide to the day covering what to run, how much to order, and when to have it booked by.

What's in the range

R U OK? Cupcakes are what most offices order, in packs that run from a team of ten upwards. Mini R U OK? Cupcakes stretch further if you've got a big floor to cover, and R U OK? Donuts get spotted from across the room.

R U OK? Cookies keep for weeks, so they suit a date that might move. There's an R U OK? Brownie for one person, and Vegan R U OK? Cupcakes so nobody sits it out.

Want your branding on them? Personalised R U OK? Cupcakes take up to three logos, images or messages on edible icing.

The range is only available from 1 to 17 September.

Running something at your workplace

R U OK? have free posters, conversation guides and workplace resources on their site. Start there if you're organising something.

For the food, have a look through the R U OK? Day collection. Everything is baked in our Melbourne bakery, in bulk packs that suit anything from a small team to a few hundred people. Same-day delivery across Melbourne if you order by 1PM, next-day to Sydney and the rest of Australia.

September fills up, so get in earlier than you think you need to.

If you or someone you know needs support, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14, 24 hours a day.
