Goldeluck’s Doughnuts was established in 2018 by Phillip Kuoch and has since then become the most exciting new doughnut brand in Melbourne.
Since our humble beginnings, we have served more than 350,000 customers and regularly been featured as one of the best doughnut shops in Melbourne by publications such as the Herald Sun and Concrete Playground.
In 2015, Phillip’s parents were just weeks away from taking the biggest risk of their lives by signing the purchase of their first bakery business called Goldeluck’s Bakeshop. But then his dad’s medical condition got worst. His parents were about to give up on their dreams of running a successful bakery and then Phillip offered to step in and run the business on his parent’s behalf.
At the age of 21 and still finishing his marketing and journalism degree, Phillip took control of his parent’s business with no business and little-to-no baking experience. He would start work at midnight to learn how to bake and during the day, he would operate the business to ensure that he learnt every aspect of the business.
Less than a year later, Phillip entered Goldeluck’s Bakeshop into the National Baking Competition and was awarded Bronze for the Best Traditional Meat Pasties. This not only was evident of Phillip’s hard work but it fueled him with even more passion for his baking.
On July 12, 2016, Philip posted a picture online of Goldeluck’s new croissant-doughnut called the ‘dossant’ and people from all over Melbourne would come to the little suburban bakery in Croydon at 5:30 am opening time.
The dossant began to take a life of its own. From selling just 6 dossants on the first day, the numbers of dossants began to multiply rapidly. At Goldeluck’s first pop up store, more than 1,500 dossants was sold out in 1.5 hours with a one per person purchase limit.
Not too long after the dossants were introduced, Goldeluck’s made global headlines when it introduced the world’s first croissant-doughnut covered in real 24 karat edible gold. The gold dossant was featured in Australia’s mainstream media including the Herald Sun, Broadsheet, Nova FM, and made headlines in countries such as China, Indonesia and America.
In April 2018, the Goldeluck’s Doughnut brand was established when Goldeluck’s launched its first store dedicated to its doughnuts at Eastland Shopping Centre.
When Phillip is not at work, he is passionate about empowering young people to chase for their dreams. He regularly speaks at schools and young entrepreneur conferences and shares his stories about the challenges of running a business whilst still studying. At present day, Phillip is completing his Masters in Data Science and runs the business with the help of his younger sister, Corina.
